Single Malt Whisky Reviews from Australia

Overeem Port Wood Finish for The Oak Barrel

This sample was provided by fellow Australian blogger Martin from the Time for Whisky blog. Here we have a special bottling for The Oak Barrel, Sydney. The final two months of its maturation took place in the shop!

Notes

Eye: Medium Amber

Nose: Port influence isn’t obvious. Fresh isn’t the right word because there is absolutely zero new make smell. Nice crisp fresh malt without being new? Oak influence is strong.

Palate: There’s the port influence and wow, there’s that classic Overeem mouthfeel. Very creamy, very lush.

Finish: Chocolate cream goodness. Quite floral, the oak has imparted nice flavours but not zapped the whisky of it’s character.

Now on to the music. A song from The Smashing Pumpkins taken from the album Siamese Dream. One of the best albums of the 1990’s in my opinion.
