Laphroaig 10yr Spirit SpA Italian Import Whisky Review

My first pre Royal Warrant Laphroaig. I hope it lives up to all the hype. According to whiskysample.nl, Spirit S.p.A. Genova was the Italian importer of Laphroaig between 1985 and 1988. This means that this whisky must have been distilled between 1975 and 1978.

Notes

Eye: Light honey

Nose: Mineral iodine, peat and apples. Hospital ward. Flowers and vanilla are there.

Palate: Sweet with iodine, peat smoke and a vanilla waxy quality.

Finish: Beautifully long and oily. Finishes with heather and apple notes complementing the peat. This is a cracking dram.

Really great whisky here and yes in my opinion it does live up to the hype. The standard 10yr Laphroaig of the day in the 1980's was brilliant stuff. Liquid history.

To go with this whisky is a cover of The ROlling Stones "Wild Horses". This was recorded for an Australian TV show called RocKwiz and was performed by Gareth Liddiard from The Drones and Taasha Coates from The Audreys. Amazing stuff. Enjoy.
