Lagavulin 12yr Cask Strength 2013 Limited Edition Whisky Review
Had this one the other day at Shirt Bar in Sydney. Great bar by the way, highly recommended. The 2011 release of 12yr Lagavulin was exceptional and I expected nothing less of this one.
Notes
Eye: Pale golden hue
Nose: Smoked cured meat, agave with hints of honey. This is almost like a mezcal. Deep earthen smoke, almost raw smoke. Could nose this all night.
Palate: Lime and lemon burst meets deep spicy peat. Heavy ocean and smoke mix. No burn, very smooth and almost sweet. Fantastic stuff.
Finish: Lime an lemon sherbet with spice and warmth on the outset. Decent mouthfeel on this one. Coats well and doesn't run to dryness. Stays very smoky and rides out on a malty cream note.

Take note, this is seriously good whisky. All of these Lagavulin 12yr old special releases are. This really sets the standard for other distilleries. The whisky tastes well beyond its years both in refinement and complexity. All of this coming in at a price point that is exceptionally reasonable.
Music for this whisky is from The Trammps. Have had this song in my head all day and now you will too.
