Douglas Laing Port Ellen 26yr 1979 Old Malt Cask Whisky Review
I was given a glass of this phenomenal Port Ellen by my friend Yoji in Japan.
Notes
Eye: Blonde
Nose: Peat with some iodine and smoked meat. Quite earthy with hints of peat and hints of drying clay.
Palate: Lemon explosion. Peat is high for a 26yr old. Heavy wax and oils. Great mouthfeel.
Finish: Long clean lemon malt and peat finish with a heavy ocean influence. Simply, I'm in heaven. Smoked meat notes come back on the outset. Overall the refill butt really didn't impact the whisky much, and the way it did was simply gorgeous.
