Single Malt Whisky Reviews from Australia

Douglas Laing Bowmore 12yr Premier Barrel Whisky Review

Love the ceramic whisky containers. So much class. Don’t see too many companies doing them these days either, guess it’s more expensive and such. So here we have a 12yr old Bowmore from the old Douglas Laing and Co.

Notes

Eye: Light, like white wine

Nose: Smoke and ash. Drying clay meets minimal lemon zest. Lemon is very low on this one. Very mineral with maritime hints.

Palate: Smoky sweet on first contact, and then the clay and ash kick in. Not as maritime or citrusy as I would have expected.

Finish: Oily and ashy. Has an earth like mouthfeel. Take the clay and ash, smoke it up a bit and mix it with some well rounded malt flavours, plus a dash of ocean, and you have this whisky.

A different take on a well known favourite. For those who like the official Bowmore 12 year offering I can highly recommend this one!!

This week I’ve been going back over some records in my music collection. Listening to them again for the first time in ages has been a lot of fun and has brought back lots of memories. This song is by Muse and is from the album “Origin of Symmetry”. Brilliant album, if you haven’t heard it all the way through do yourself a favour and take the time.
