Adelphi Caol Ila 9yr Whisky Review
Every once in a while something unexpected comes along, it takes you by surprise and your senses are overwhelmed. That was the welcome to this phenomenal offering from Adelphi. While I will at some point cover the official Caol Ila offerings, this malt is completely different.
The key point for me that makes this malt absolutely come alive is the higher bottling strength. That, and no chill filtration or colouring and you have me won. This Islay malt has on first impressions alone earned a spot on my favourites list.
Notes
Nose: Peat, Ocean, Salt, Water, Marzipan, Aniseed.
Palate: Sweet yet incredibly light, Hints of glazed alcohol laden fruits, Waves of peat and ocean spray, Citrus. Wow.
Finish: Long and deep. Incredibly warm. Seductively sweet and smoky. Minutes later develops to earthen peat.
