Adelphi Caol Ila 9yr Whisky Review
Every once in a while something unexpected comes along, it takes you by surprise and your senses are overwhelmed. That was the welcome to this phenomenal offering from Adelphi. While I will at some point cover the ‘standard’ Caol Ila offerings, this malt is completely different. It has a much higher peat content and a richer circumference.
The key point for me that makes this malt absolutely comes alive is the higher bottling strength, to date it equals none in the 60%ABV and above category in my opinion. That and no chill filtration or colouring and you have me won. This Islay malt has on first impressions alone earned a spot on my favourites list.
Nose: Peat, Ocean, Salt, Water, Marzipan, Aniseed.
Palate: Sweet yet incredibly light, Hints of glazed alcohol laden fruits, Waves of peat and ocean spray, Citrus. Wow.
Finish: Long and deep. Incredibly warm. Seductively sweet and smoky. Minutes later develops to earthen peat.
